Understanding Your Leather
Suede is crafted from the inner layer of the hide, giving it a soft, brushed finish with a distinctive nap. Nubuck is made from the outer grain of the hide, creating a finer, velvety texture while retaining the leather’s natural grain.
On nubuck, crazy horse and distressed leathers, you may notice a subtle line running down the centre of the boot. This is known as the blocking line and is a natural result of the bootmaking process, where each boot is shaped from a single piece of leather. Its appearance varies from hide to hide, making every pair unique. While it will often soften with wear, it remains a hallmark of authentic craftsmanship and quality.
Protecting Your Boots
To help preserve the appearance of suede and nubuck, we recommend applying a quality suede protector before first wear. This creates a breathable barrier against water and everyday stains without affecting the leather’s natural character.
- Ensure the boots are clean and dry.
- Spray evenly from approximately 20cm away.
- Allow to dry naturally, away from direct heat.
- Repeat the application three times, alternating the direction of each coat to achieve even coverage.
Reapply every 2–3 months, or more frequently if the boots are worn regularly in wet conditions.
When wearing lighter-coloured suede or nubuck, take care with non-colourfast denim or dark trousers, as dye transfer can occur.
