In mid November 2020 John and I headed to the Links House Hotel in Dornoch for a much needed night away from it all. We have meant to stay at Links House for quite some time as we have long admired the interior design and enless enticing photos on Instagram of their restaurant and buildings. I actually first visited the hotel in 2011 when it was being renovated and even then you could see that no detail was left untouched. After a long year of lockdown and life with Covid, this seemed a good time for some R&R.
Dornoch is a wonderful place to visit, I grew up nearby and we always enjoyed visiting the stunning beach, followed by lunch at Luigis. With friends a trip to Dunrobin Castle for the falconry display was always a ‘must do’. Now the town has a wonderful selection of shops, cafes and restaurants all with much appeal. We are not golfers, but the world famous course is a must visit, Links House is just metres from the first tee.
After a light lunch we were ready to check in at the hotel. We had a lovely warm welcome and were ushered inside from the cold wind. With fires lit and afternoon tea at the ready we instantly felt relaxed and began to unwind. The staff are very friendly and helpful and our bags were taken up to our room ahead of us. The interiors and design of the hotel both inside and out are extremely pleasing to the eye, packed with pattern and texture the fabrics are wonderful, I was taking lots of style notes.
We had the most wonderful evening in the Mara restaurant, a seafood platter and a perfect steak, the restaurant was busy which was wonderful to see.
If you are looking for a luxurious break away in the Highlands I would definitely try and book Links House. The area is teeming with renowned angling beats and has a host of historic gems such as Dornoch Cathedral, another reason Dornoch is a special place for us, we got married here in 2011. The North Coast 500 passes right through Dornoch and is now regarded as one of the greatest road trips in the world. We were lucky enough to stay in the Navar Suite at Links House (photo below) and it was the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time, the bathrooms with seperate bath and shower are so spacious and light and we loved the antler bench at the end of the bed. With 15 bedrooms and some apartments available, this is my ideal size of hotel! Check out their website www.linkshousedornoch.com
