Tell us a bit about yourself?

My names Chloe and I live in Perthshire with my husband and our pack of six dogs. I’m a huge advocate for the countryside and the importance and value that the shooting industry brings in terms of environmental, social, and economic benefits. With a marketing background, I’m lucky enough to tell the stories of the countryside through my work.
When I’m not partaking in Fieldsports myself, deer stalking being a particular passion of mine, you’ll find me assisting my husband, who alongside his full-time farrier business runs Stormwatch Gundogs. We offer residential training and one to one and group lessons.
You will also often find me chasing after my mischievous teckel – Sybil!

Are you someone that’s always loved the countryside way of life?

In short – yes! I was lucky enough to grow up on a small holding, so spent my childhood surrounded by a menagerie of animals and being in the outdoors. It wasn’t until my late teens that I got into Fieldsports, before this you’d find me competing on my horses.
I feel hugely privileged to have had the opportunity to grow up in the countryside, and even more so through working in the industry.

Have you lived in Scotland long?

I have been living in Perthshire for nearly four years with my now husband, Will. Originally from just outside the Lake District near Kirby Lonsdale, we meet through mutual friends at a game shoot in the Scottish Borders on one of the last days of the season in 2018. I moved up the following September and the rest is history as they say!

Tell us a bit about your role at CSS?

I’m the project manager for Country Sport Scotland, which is the premium directory for country sports opportunities and accommodation in Scotland. Primarily a marketing body for deer stalking, game shooting and fishing.
Using our marketing tools, such as our website and social media channels, we aim to both raise awareness for the uniqueness of country sports opportunities present in Scotland and advertise available sporting for our sporting providers.
The website is free to use for consumers and is a great way for visitors to search by quarry, location and see what nearby estates have to offer. Bookings are dealt with directly with the provider, with no commission from ourselves.

You seem to enjoy fieldsports. In the past there has perhaps been a lack of interest from ladies. Have you noticed a change in the last few years?

Definitely – When I first started shooting over ten years ago, there were a couple of ladies shooting groups and since then may more have begun. I used to host ladies clay shooting days on a local ground, which involved instruction on clays, both for beginners and experienced, followed by plenty of cake!
Now there are many fantastic organisations, like Country Girls UK, run by Tania and her team, who do a fantastic job of creating a community and encouraging more woman into the industry. Social media has also been an excellent tool for connecting like-minded people.

What do you like to wear when out in the field?

It largely depends on what we are doing, but I don’t think you can go far wrong with a good set of tweeds! Throughout the winter months, whether its stalking on the open hill to picking up on a local game shoot, you will find me in my bespoke plus fours from Campbell’s.
I also think good waterproofs are crucial – particularly living in Scotland! A good piece of knitwear is a shooting wardrobe must, Campbell’s have the perfect balance of heritage and practicality.

How did you find about about Campbell’s and when did you got your first set of tweeds?

I blame my husband entirely for my love of Campbell’s as its one of the first places he took me when I moved up. Funnily enough, I had heard about Campbell’s years ago as my Grandparents lived on the Black Isle for a short period when I was younger, and my Grandpa used to visit the shop for his tweed hats!
I have struggled for years to a find a pair of tweed breeks/plus fours that fit me properly. So, I decided to treat myself to a bespoke pair and have never looked back!
